in healthcare. About the Role: The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Registered Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to
patients recovering from anesthesia through the application of the
nursing process. The RN collaborates with patients, families,
physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver safe,
evidence-based, and compassionate care in accordance with MRHC
policies, AORN standards, and the Nurse Practice Act of the State
of Oklahoma. Minimum Qualifications: Current and valid Registered
Nurse (RN) license in the state of Oklahoma. Completion of an
accredited nursing program. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Current ACLS and PALS certifications (or ability to obtain per
policy). Prior experience or clinical exposure in perioperative or
critical care nursing. Strong knowledge of postoperative care
protocols and patient monitoring standards. Preferred
Qualifications: Experience working in a PACU or surgical setting.
Familiarity with AORN standards and perioperative documentation.
Experience caring for post-anesthesia and surgical patients.
Responsibilities: Continuously monitor patients' vital signs and
level of consciousness immediately after surgery to detect any
adverse reactions or complications. Administer prescribed
medications and pain management interventions while documenting
patient responses accurately. Perform thorough assessments to
evaluate airway patency, respiratory function, and cardiovascular
stability. Collaborate with the surgical and anesthesia teams to
communicate patient status and any concerns promptly. Educate
patients and their families about postoperative care instructions
and recovery expectations before discharge or transfer. Skills: The
RN in PACU utilizes critical thinking and clinical assessment
skills daily to evaluate patient status and respond to changes
promptly. Effective communication skills are essential for
coordinating care with surgical teams and providing clear
instructions to patients and families. Proficiency in administering
medications and managing pain ensures patient comfort and safety
during recovery. Time management and multitasking abilities are
crucial to handle multiple patients simultaneously while
maintaining high standards of care. Additionally, emotional
resilience and empathy support the nurse in delivering
compassionate care in a fast-paced, often stressful
environment.
